Book of Inferno: Slot Overview
'I have come to lead you to the other shore; into eternal darkness; into fire and into ice', wrote one of the towering intellectuals of the Middle Ages, the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in his magnum opus The Divine Comedy. There's something about Dante and his guide Virgil's trip into the abyss that has left a lasting impression on readers ever since it was released in the early 14th century. It's this sort of fiery, beast-filled world players are unloaded on in Book of Inferno from developer Quickspin. Yes, this is another 'Book of' slot for sure, but one which mixes a few rule tweaks with hair-raising audio-visuals to lift it into a newer, terrifying plane of existence than most manage to reach.
In Book of Inferno, developer Quickspin sends players to the underworld, the nether regions, the lake of fire, or however you would like to reference it. As such, we get demonic beasts, lava pools, jagged rock formations, scary sculptures, and a heavy, ominous dark sky. Not everyone's definition of a fun place to hang out, but one which offers a stack of striking artwork. Quickspin's audio team has done an equally good job of adding an additional layer of depth, heaviness and horror with the sounds. We're not alone down here, though. Thankfully, the studio has populated Book of Inferno with a heroine called Anna the Demon Huntress, and with a name like that, she's definitely in the right place. We are a long way from Ancient Egypt, the progenitor theme of the 'Book of' genre, and if the visuals or setting aren't too terrifying, Quickspin has designed a game which makes a bold statement from the moment it loads.
While the looks might make a statement, Book of Inferno keeps things pretty regular in terms of setup. This translates to a 5-reel game grid, each reel holding 3 rows and crossed by 10 fixed paylines. A highly volatile gambling machine, the game may be found with alternative RTP models, the highest one having a value of 96.15%, increasing to 96.65% if buying free spins. Any device may be used, and bets start at 10 p/c per spin, topping out at $/€100.
Ten pay symbols are present on the reels, split into low pay 9-A card royals and four high pay characters symbols. These characters are the Commander of Hell, the Lady of Hell, the Lord of Hell, and Anna the Demon Huntress. Hitting a five-of-a-kind winning line awards payouts of 8 to 12 times the bet for the low pays or 75 to 500 times the bet for the premiums. There's a book symbol here too, which is wild, so it replaces any normal pay symbols and the scatter. Books can create wins of themselves, too, worth up to 500x the bet for a line of five of them.
Book of Inferno: Slot Features
For the most part, Book of Inferno follows the usual 'Book of' MO of expanding, pay anywhere, all lines special symbols in free spins. However, it also uses the concept at times in the base game, as well as a Marked symbol upgrade element, as well.
Marked Symbols
Whenever a Marked symbol lands (in the base or bonus game), if there are enough of them to create a win, they expand to cover the whole reel. These expanded symbols pay anywhere, and on all paylines, they do not need to be adjacent to each other or anything like that. If a Book lands at the same time as a Marked symbol, the Marked symbol is upgraded to the next highest value symbol type, possibly creating more Marked symbols and expansion. If the Marked symbol is upgraded beyond the highest paying symbol, the lowest paying symbol is converted into the highest one.
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 books awards, 10, 15, or 20 free spins with an x2, 20x, or 200x the bet win on top, respectively. The same number of free spins are triggered if this occurs while the bonus round is active. At the start of free spins, a highly detailed grimoire of a book flips its pages to randomly pick a pay symbol to be marked for the round.
Buy Feature
Players with access to this feature can pay 125x the bet to buy free spins triggered by 3 or more books. The RTP when buying free spins is 96.65%.
Book of Inferno: Slot Verdict
'Book of' slots are a dime a dozen, so it takes something pretty special to make any sort of impact with yet another one. Play'n GO, for example, is adept at tweaking some of the settings, covering them in quality art and rolling them out again and again. Book of Inferno felt like Quickspin had pushed that idea to the next level. The game has a great look if you're into this sort of heavy diabolical thing, and Quickspin has been rather daring with their choice of topic. Even the smaller details, like the book animations when features trigger, have been skillfully pulled off, and everything contributes to a slickly designed, imaginative 'Book of' slot, the likes of which haven't really been seen much before, if ever.
On the gaming side, Book of Inferno delivers the sort of rock-solid helping of expanding symbol action fans of this style would expect, with some new stuff tacked on for good measure. The newer bits being Marked symbols in the base game, while not completely original, is uncommon enough to feel a little bit special, as well as the way Books can upgrade Marked Symbols. They aren't major innovations, but when combined with the eye-catching visuals and the heavy sounds, they're good enough tweaks to help elevate the game further. At its fiery core, Book of Inferno is all about hitting those Marked symbols, getting them to expand and pay all ways from all positions. In this way, Book of Inferno is another in a long line of Book of Ra descendants, albeit one that looks and sounds very different to the original.
As mentioned, there are a ton of these sorts of games floating around the market, though few conduct themselves the way Book of Inferno does. Book of Shadows kind of went dark, yet Book of Inferno rams the concept even further. For those who like their games menacing, heavy, and just a little bit scary, Book of Inferno could be an ideal go-to.
Great
Book of Inferno’s unique presentation pushes its head, horns, and shoulders above the usual run-of-the-mill ‘Book of’ slot.
